The man convicted of attempted first-degree murder for shooting an Illinois State Trooper in Springfield in 2023 has been sentenced to 95 years in prison.
Judge Ryan Cadigan sentenced 40-year-old Cristobal Santana on Friday.
A Sangamon County jury convicted Santana in August after a three-day trial. Santana was a suspect in the death of his ex-girlfriend in Chicago when Trooper Dakota Chapman-Green pulled him over near Toronto Road.
Dashcam and surveillance video showed Santana exiting his car and shooting the trooper several times, then chasing the trooper and beating him with his gun. Santana represented himself during sentencing after claiming ineffectiveness of counsel during trial.
The judge denied his motion for a new trial.
