“WKRP in Cincinnati” was a great show, but there never actually WAS a WKRP in the city of Cincinnati.
But that’s about to change.
D.P. McIntire runs a nonprofit that’s been using those call letters for a low-power station in Raleigh, North Carolina since 2015. Before that, they’d been used in Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee.
But McIntire recently made a deal to sell them to someone who’s FINALLY bringing WKRP to the city that made those letters famous.
He says, quote, “I cannot, by contract, tell you when. I cannot tell you who. But I can tell you, direct to the camera, WKRP, after 48 years, is coming to Cincinnati.”
He adds, quote, “It will be radio. But that’s all I can tell you at this time.”
(“WKRP in Cincinnati” aired on CBS from 1978 to 1982.)
