Meet Our Latest Friend
The arts thrive when thoughtful leadership meets community spirit in Springfield and few people demonstrate this more clearly than Bella Szabo, who works with the Springfield Area Arts Council, joined the Morning Routine with Rocki and Lacey to talk about her commitment to strengthening Springfield’s cultural and art landscape through accessible, inclusive, and well‑executed arts programming.
The Springfield arts community is at an exciting moment of growth. Arts organizations across Sangamon and Menard counties are expanding programming, forging stronger partnerships, and securing new funding to ensure creativity continues to flourish locally. This moment calls for leaders who can balance vision with logistics—and Bella Szabo embodies that balance.
Guided by values long shared across Springfield’s arts institutions, the work Bella supports is rooted in a belief that creativity flourishes when everyone feels welcome and supported. Inclusivity, fairness, and respect are the guiding principles that shape how programs are planned and delivered. By celebrating diverse perspectives and ensuring that the arts remain accessible to all, Bella’s role reinforces the idea that a more diverse arts ecosystem leads to stronger community impact.
The Springfield Area Arts council is looking for a new Program Director, which is a role that calls for a blend of organization, motivation, and passion for the arts. It involves:
- Planning and executing major programs and events
- Managing event logistics and volunteer coordination
- Supporting fundraising and marketing efforts
- Building and maintaining community partnerships
- Serving as a liaison with funders and stakeholders
- Collaborating closely with executive leadership
A central focus of program leadership in Springfield is coordinating high‑visibility initiatives such as the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series, while simultaneously supporting other performances, exhibitions, and community‑based programs.
The Program Director role is both strategic and forward‑looking. Funded on a fixed‑term basis with the potential for renewal, it reflects the reality faced by many arts organizations today—where long‑term sustainability depends on continued funding, community engagement, and demonstrated impact.
As Springfield continues to grow and evolve, leaders like Bella and the new Program Director will play a vital role in ensuring that the arts remain not just present, but thriving—for everyone.
