Sangamon County Democrats are accepting applications for a vacancy on the county board in District 12.
Marc Ayers announced his resignation from the board last week and participated in his final meeting on Tuesday.
District 12 covers a section of Springfield west of MacArthur Boulevard, parts of Leland Grove and all of Jerome.
The opening must be filled by a Democrat, the same party as Ayers, according to state law.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, registered to vote and a resident of District 12 for at least one year.
