As the deadline approaches on Wednesday to file income tax returns, the Illinois Department of Revenue says the earlier, the better if filing by mail.
The U.S. Postal Service has updated postmarking procedures to indicate the date of the first automated processing, which may not be the date the envelope was dropped off at the post office.
IDOR Director David Harris said electronic filing is the most efficient option.
