Makers Madness 2026 Winner Announced

A device used on the recent Artemis II mission around the moon has been voted as “The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois.”

The Illinois Manufacturers Association announced on Wednesday that the NASA Standard Initiator made my Chemring  Energetic Devices in Downers Grove is the 2026 Makers Madness award winner.

Governor JB Pritzker hosted the annual ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion. 

The device is an electrically activated pyrotechnic device that triggers various functions in space flight. IMA said nearly 167,000 votes were cast over the past eight weeks to choose from more than 100 entries.
