A retired anesthesiologist celebrated his 80th birthday in July by donating $1 million to HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Babu Prasad was formally thanked and recognized Tuesday for his contribution to the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital.
Prasad said his love for Springfield led to his donation to continue its tradition of high-quality healthcare.
Dr. Prasad arrived in the United States more than 50 years ago after graduating from medical school in India. He served at St. John’s for nearly two decades before retiring in 2004.
