A letter from Mary Todd Lincoln acquired by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum shows the former First Lady apologizing to her son’s teacher.
Mrs. Lincoln said in the letter dated April 17, 1868 that illness prevented her from reviewing her son Tad’s geography lesson.
Thomas “Tad” Lincoln was 15 years old at the time, three years after Abraham Lincoln’s death.
The letter was donated to the ALPLM earlier this year.
