A man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kidnap a girl in Washington Park in Springfield shortly before noon Wednesday.
Springfield Park District Police arrested 24-year-old Vontrez Haynes of Springfield after 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 2000 block of Barberry Drive, a few blocks south of the park.
Police said Haynes was also wanted in connection with an unrelated retail theft that occurred shortly before his arrest. Initial charges against Haynes included unlawful restraint, aggravated battery of a juvenile, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and disorderly conduct.
