A former Springfield School District 186 board member has died. Scott McFarland died on Saturday at his home in Moline according to the Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory in Moline. He was 41.
McFarland served on the District 186 board from 2011 to 2015 and from 2019 to 2021, most recently as president. He served with the state’s major volunteerism arm Serve Illinois from 2006 to 2020, and established the Facebook group “Springfield Families Helping Families” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A celebration of life will scheduled at a later date.
