Two Die in Helicopter Crash in East Alton

Two people died on Thursday when their helicopter hit power lines and crashed into a barge on the Mississippi River at East Alton.

A spokesperson for Ameren said a contractor and sub-contractor were replacing tower lights and power line marker balls.

A fire on the barge was quickly extinguished. No one was on the barge at the time of the crash. No other injuries were reported.
