Underpasses carrying Jefferson and Madison streets in Springfield have received a national safety award.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said the underpasses received an America’s Transportation Award.
The underpasses are part of the Springfield Rail Improvement Project with a goal of reducing noise and emissions as well as improving reliability for first responders.
