Illinois leaders reacted quickly on Wednesday to the shooting death of conservative influencer and Illinois native Charlie Kirk at a rally in Utah.

Governor JB Pritzker called the attack “horrifying,” adding that “political violence has no place in this country” as he sent sympathies to Kirk’s family and friends.

Senator Dick Durbin said “political violence is wrong—no matter the ideology it stems from.” State Republican chair Kathy Salvi said “our hearts are broken” and Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association President Mark Guethle said “there is never an excuse for violence. Full stop.”
