ABC is taking “Jimmy Kimmel Live” off the air indefinitely, because of comments Jimmy made in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder. What did Jimmy do that was so egregious? He misidentified Kirk’s alleged killer as a right-winger.
He said, quote, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
In the wake of the murder, there was a TON of misinformation floating around about the killer’s ideology . . . and it seemed like everyone in the country, on both sides, was scrambling to paint him as a representative of the other side before anybody knew anything.
ABC’s decision to pull Kimmel was reportedly based on pressure from affiliates. Nexstar, a company that owns more than 200 TV stations nationwide . . . with about two dozen ABC affiliates . . . told the network it was pre-empting the show.
At least one other station group threatened to do the same.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr had previously threatened to take action over Kimmel’s remarks.
(Because yeah, who cares about free speech, right?)
Not surprisingly, President Trump celebrated the news, saying, quote, “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.”
