I’m excited—we’re entering one of my favorite times of the year! Let’s face it: I know it gets cold outside, and that’s a dealbreaker for a lot of people. BUT—we’ve got Halloween to look forward to, then Thanksgiving right around the corner, and before you know it, we’re diving into the winter holidays and ringing in the New Year.
There’s something magical about this seasonal shift. For me, it’s the fresh, crisp air, the cozy clothes, and all the warm, comforting drinks that start popping up everywhere. And for the record—this doesn’t have to mean pumpkin spice. We asked listeners on the show recently if they were getting into pumpkin spice yet, and a few people chimed in with a bold take: apples are the best flavor of the season.
Honestly? I agree. Apples have quietly been dethroned as the king of fall flavors, and I’m not sure exactly when that happened. Pumpkin spice has definitely taken over in recent years, but apples still bring that nostalgic, orchard-fresh vibe that screams autumn.
Whether you’re team pumpkin, team apple, or just here for the cinnamon and nutmeg, fall flavors are undefeated. They’re comforting, familiar, and somehow taste better when the leaves start to turn.
And it’s not just about the food and drinks—there’s so much happening locally and around Illinois this time of year. We just had DSI’s “Friends of the Farmers Market” dinner, and it looked absolutely stellar. That’s what this season is all about: big tables, good friends, delicious food, and warm fellowship.
So as 2025 starts to cool down and we inch closer to the new year, I hope your season is filled with all of these things. Cozy nights, festive gatherings, and maybe a few spontaneous road trips to see the fall colors. 🍁
Time to switch over to that fall playlist, grab your favorite drink, and soak it all in. Happy fall, y’all!
