I remember when I was a kid—nothing felt overwhelming. Everything seemed like a giant opportunity, and I was excited about it all. As I got older, I’m not sure if it was just life doing its thing, but sometimes even the smallest obstacle feels impossible. You’d think it would be the other way around. So why did everything seem possible back then? And why does that feeling fade as we age?
I think it comes down to experiences we perceive as negative—like not getting the job you wanted or hitting every red light on the way to an important meeting. Those moments (big or small) take a toll. I’m speaking from my own experience, but I’m sure many can relate. After enough of these setbacks, it’s easy to start viewing life through a more pessimistic lens.
The only advice I can give is this: fight against that feeling. It’s important to stay optimistic, even when things aren’t going your way. Life will always have ups and downs. You won’t feel great about everything all the time—but if you can hold on to optimism during the darker moments, it will pay off. And not just for your mental health—I truly believe it impacts your physical health too.
I know it’s hard to be an optimist, but when you consider the alternative, optimism doesn’t seem so bad. I hope your holiday season is going well, and if you need a little cheer, tune in to Lacey and me in the morning. We’re sure to crack a smile or two.
