New State Law Helps Those with Permanent Disabilities

By Greg Halbleib Jan 8, 2026 | 5:22 AM

A state law that took effect January 1st reduces the amount of red tape required for residents with permanent disabilities.

Legislation sponsored by State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer and State Senator Steve McClure allows certifications for disability license plates and parking decals to be valid for five years.

Certifications are now accepted from physical therapists as well as physicians. The lawmakers said a constituent with multiple sclerosis suggested the legislation.
