The Rochester school board approved a revised deficit reduction plan on Wednesday evening.

The revised plan calls for $2.2 million in cost reductions, down from the original plan of $3.1 million.

Superintendent Rolf Sivertsen said the education fund is projected to be in a deficit of nearly $1.7 million in fiscal year 2027.

The revised plan reduces the number of staff cuts from 39 to 22 as well as reassigns or consolidates other positions.

Sivertsen said he made every effort in the revised plan to preserve student programs, adding that teachers and the union were helpful in providing suggestions for cuts.
