Fire heavily damaged a home in Chatham early Thursday evening.
Chatham Fire Chief Gary Self said firefighters were called before 7 o’clock to the two-story home in the 100 block of East Spruce Street.
Fire was contained to the first floor with heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the home.
Self said the fire was under control within 25 minutes of the call.
