Members of the University of Illinois-Springfield (UIS) Staff Union and the UIS United Faculty (UISUF) have overwhelmingly voted to authorize strikes if fair contracts cannot be reached.
Union members cite months of administrative stonewalling in negotiations, insulting salary proposals, and attempts to take away current contract protections as the main reasons for taking the votes to authorize further action.
Today’s vote results do not guarantee that either union will strike, but give the leadership of each group the ability to call a strike if necessary.
The next faculty bargaining session is set for March 23
