Ground has been broken on a new Illinois State Police canine training complex west of Pawnee.
The new facility along Route 104 will consist of two new buildings, including kennels, training areas and office space.
Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said the department currently has 64 canine teams.
ISP Division of Patrol Deputy Director Colonel Chris Owen said the upgrades will allow indoor and outdoor training.
The Capital Development Board is overseeing the project, as well as a separate project currently being designed to renovate the nearby pistol and rifle ranges.
