An audience chair in use at the time and place of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination is now in the possession of a Springfield museum.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum announced Monday that the chair will go on display this summer as part of a special exhibit called “The Second American Revolution.”

The chair was used in the audience section of Ford’s Theatre on April 14, 1865 when Lincoln was shot.

Retired Wake Forest Univesity dean Gordon McCray purchased the chair at a charity auction about 40 years ago and donated it to the museum.
