Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory has introduced a proposal to establish a bond district for the “History Across the Tracks” initiative.
During Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Gregory listed a number of projects for the new STAR bond district to attract tourism.
The ordinance itself would be closely paired with a bill recently introduced in the General Assembly by State Senator Doris Turner which would develop a new tourism authority within the Springfield area.
Gregory and other members of the City Council met with Senator Turner to discuss concerns about the bill and the City of Springfield’s role in the newly proposed Capital Area Tourism Authority.
