Parking is free on the streets of downtown Springfield, and soon downtown will be parking meter-free.
The city announced on Friday afternoon that crews will soon begin removing the meters as part of an effort to improve downtown aesthetics. Posted time limits still apply and will be enforced.
The city eliminated the need to feed downtown parking meters in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several private lots still require fees or permits.
