The Illinois House on Wednesday passed large auto and homeowners insurance reform plans.
One bill would ban insurance companies from raising auto premiums by more than 10 percent without first notifying customers at least 30 days before renewal.
The Illinois Department of Insurance would ensure auto rates are not excessive or discriminatory.
The Illinois Insurance Association said the measure could raise auto insurance costs and limit coverages.
The House also passed a bill that would prohibit home insurance rates from increasing by more than 10 percent without a 60-day notice and impose similar oversight. The measures now head to the governor’s desk.
