Illinois House Speaker Emmanuel “Chris” Welch said that not only were the votes not there for a stadium authority package, but there was also not enough initial support in the House for a downtown Springfield economic package centered around a proposed new hotel and expansion of Bank of Springfield Center.
Welch said neither issue is dead and discussions will continue. Welch said shortly after the House adjourned early Monday morning that he was not considering a special summer session.
