The Springfield Fire department responded to a fire at 401 E. Jefferson Street on Monday evening.
When firefighters arrived, there was heavy black smoke coming from a fourth-floor apartment. Crews quickly jumped into action and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing further spread within the building.
One individual was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No additional injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
