An ordinance to donate the Y Block in downtown Springfield to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources was given its first reading by the Springfield City Council on Tuesday.
The space covers more than two acres just north of the Governor’s Mansion. The block is the site of the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series of free concerts and activities every Thursday evening during the summer.
The state’s fiscal year 2025 budget included $4 million to construct a park on the site.
The council is expected to discuss the ordinance during next Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting followed by a possible final vote on July 21st.
