Firefighters battled a large blaze with thick smoke Wednesday morning at Mervis Recycling scrap yard on 9th Street in Springfield.
The fire in a large scrap metal pile was brought under control before noon.
The Springfield Fire Department said it is monitoring air quality and will issue advisories if needed.
