A ribbon was cut on Wednesday morning officially opening a new materials testing lab for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The Materials Testing and Research Center is on the south side of IDOT’s Harry Hanley Building campus on Dirksen Parkway in Springfield.
DOT Secretary Gia Biagi the center will review materials used on the state’s roads and bridges.
Capital Development Board Executive Director TJ Edwards said the facility consolidates many functions.
The $71 million center will house many of the functions formerly done at IDOT’s nine-decade-old facility on Ash Street.
