A Springfield police officer was legally justified in shooting an armed gang member in January, according to information released on the revamped Springfield Police Department transparency web page.
Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser did not charge Sergeant Michael Raynolds after an Illinois State Police investigation into the shooting of Dominick Hobbs during a traffic stop in the Devereux Heights neighborhood on the city’s north side.
Raynolds was suspended for two days and a fellow officer, Corey Cortes, was suspended for one day for failing to activate their body cameras.
The transparency page also reported Sergeant Lindzee Carpenter was suspended for 30 days for her driving under the influence arrest on July 4. She was also placed on probation for 12 months and reassigned to the rank of patrol officer.
