Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation say they have a new lead in the kidnapping and murder of a New Jersey woman whose car was found along Interstate 80 in LaSalle County in 1992.
Sunday was the 34th anniversary of the disappearance of 21-year-old Tammy Zywicki, who was last seen standing next to her vehicle. Zywicki was found dead in a ditch near Interstate 44 between Joplin and Springfield, Missouri nine days later.
Special agents are looking for information about Theresa “Teri” Vega Belenske, who may have been connected to an unknown truck driver.
She was known to hitchhike and had ties to California.
She is not a suspect in the case. Belenske died in 2014 at age 54.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to go to the ISP Investigative Tips page or call 800-CALL-FBI.
