Friday will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks – and organizers of Ride To Remember 9/11 are asking the community to rally at the memorial at the Illinois State Capitol.
Unlike past years, Ride To Remember 9/11 will not hold its traditional parade this year through Downtown Springfield. Instead, residents are invited to gather at the 9/11 Memorial at the Capitol to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and honor the first responders, military members and everyday Americans affected by the attacks.
The memorial will be free and open to the public – giving the community an opportunity to pause, reflect and remember.

The Springfield Fire Department will hold a moment of silence at their area fire stations at 7:46AM to remember the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001. There will also be a 25th Anniversary Service in Taylorville on the Northside of the Taylorville Square at 10:00AM featuring retired NYPD officer Andrew Nelson.
