There’s nothing waking up the middle of the night and darting around the house to move the elf because you forgot. That’s what being a parent during the holiday season has been all about since Elf on the Shelf was introduced in 2005.

Since then it has become a Christmas tradition for families around the world and a way for parents to ensure their kids behave during the holiday season. But what do parents really think about the Elf.

A new YouGov poll asked parents their thoughts on it.

As far as the reason for getting the Elf. Most parents think it’s fun (61%), family tradition placed second (30%), and it was a gift was third (29%).

Even though it seems like many people have an Elf, 61% of parents say they don’t. 20% said their kids never one and, as mentioned earlier, 18% said the Elf was just too much work.
