Morgan Wallen ‘Suspended’ By Record Label After Video Shows Him Using Racial Slur

Morgan Wallen has been "suspended" from his record label in the wake of a video which surfaced on Tuesday (Feb. 2nd) in which he used a racial slur. In the hours after its release, Morgan issued an apology stating, "I'm embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better."

The apology was too little, too late for Morgan's label, Big Loud Records, who posted their own statement on social media yesterday (Wednesday, Feb. 3rd) morning which reads, "In the wake of recent events, Big Loud Records has made the decision to suspend Morgan Wallen's recording contract indefinitely. Republic Records fully supports Big Loud's decision and agrees such behavior will not be tolerated." Country radio stations had already begun dropping Morgan's music from its playlists.

This is the latest in a string of problems with Morgan, whose original appearance on Saturday Night Live in October was canceled due to video that surfaced of him not wearing a mask while partying in bars and kissing various women in Alabama after a University of Alabama football game. The show's producer was concerned about COVID. SNL later had him back as the musical guest late last year.

Prior to that, he was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside of Kid Rock’s honky-tonk in downtown Nashville.

Until this latest incident, Morgan was on track to top the all-genre Billboard 200 chart for a fourth consecutive week with Dangerous: The Double Album.

"In the wake of recent events, Big Loud Records has made the decision to suspend Morgan Wallen's recording contract indefinitely," the note reads.

"Republic Records fully supports Big Loud's decision and agrees such behavior will not be tolerated."
