Washington state topped the list. Minnesota, Utah and New Hampshire were also up there. The worst state was Louisiana, followed by New Mexico and Mississippi.
Illinois ranked 30th overall on the list. Here’s how we ranked in other areas:
- HEALTH CARE: 23
- EDUCATION: 11
- ECONOMY: 39
- INFRASTRUCTURE: 26
- OPPORTUNITY: 12
- FISCAL STABILITY: 50

While we were 30th on this list, U-Haul looked at where their trucks went one-way in 2020. We ranked 49th, which meant they were leaving our state more vs. coming to. California was 50th. Click here for that story.
