Mrs. Freeman for Teacher of the Month
I would like to nominate Cindy Freeman, of Harvard Park Elementary School in Springfield, as Teacher of the Month. She is an Elementary Special Education Teacher that routinely goes above and beyond for her students and their families. As a teacher in a high poverty school, she recognized that many of her students did not have access to online resources during remote learning. She has personally visited each students home at least weekly throughout the pandemic to assist both students and parents in operating the school provided technology, to hand deliver and pick-up assigned work, and in some cases to even deliver necessary food and supplies in this time of need. She has made it a point to get to know each of her students and their families in order to help develop learning plans to assist some of the students most being left behind by the pandemic. She has fielded phone calls and text messages at all hours of the day and night to help parents and students through both login issues on the technology and with assigned work, sometimes even driving to students homes just to help with logging in to a program. As a special Education hybrid teacher she has students both in the classroom and remotely on the computer at the same time; not an easy task to manage both, but she keeps enthusiasm high and her students as involved as possible in both settings. She has consistently fought for her students education throughout this difficult time and is truly deserving of recognition.
