Five Mistakes That Encourage Burglars to Break In

The next time you leave town, here are some mistakes to avoid, according to The Mirror….

  1. Leaving too many lights on when you’re not home: Leaving one on is fine. But leaving multiple lights on for a few days in a row is a red flag to burglars that you’re not home.
  2. Leaving a key under the mat: I mean, yeah… it’s obvious you shouldn’t do this, but plenty of people still do.
  3. Leaving your blinds open: So they can see stuff from the street. Sorry. We know your cats like the view.
  4. Buying something expensive, then leaving the empty box outside. This one is often forgot about because its, well… trash. But it acts as a beacon to someone looking for a score.
  5. Having a ladder outside where they can access it. Most burglars won’t just bring one with them to a house they’re going to rob. But if you leave one out, they’ll definitely use it. Especially if you have an upstairs window that’s easy to get into.
