By Josh Roberts Jul 29, 2020 | 12:37 PM

Garth Brooks is permanently removing himself from the running for CMA Entertainer of the Year. Garth announced the news this morning (7/29), during a press conference on Facebook.

Garth said that he began discussing the possibility of removing himself from contention for Entertainer of the Year with the Country Music Association soon after the 2019 CMA Awards. Garth won the award that evening over Carrie Underwood and Eric Church, who were considered favorites for the award. Eric Church made a dig at Brooks during a later concert.

Garth said, “The last thing I want to do is seem ungrateful, but it’s time for somebody else to hold that award … ’cause they’re all out there busting their butts.”

Garth has won the Entertainer of The Year award seven times in his career.
