Baby Earns Parents Free Wi-Fi

A newborn in Switzerland just earn her parents 18 years of free wi-fi! Not too shabby for being fresh out the womb.

The parents answered a Facebook ad from an internet startup called Twifi. They offered up 18 years of free service if a parent or parents named their child Twifus (for a boy) or Twifia (for a girl). These parents decided that Twifia wasn’t such a bad name and took the company up on their offer. Yes, this is the child’s actual name as it is written on their birth certificate.

While the parents don’t mind the name, they do feel somewhat ashamed of selling out their newborn for free wifi service. The mom said:

We don’t want to justify ourselves. Because the accusation of having sold our child’s name hits us very hard. We are also a little ashamed.

Imagine how the child is going to feel being teased not only for the name growing up but also knowing their parents would and have sold them out so easily just for free wifi. I mean, it wasn’t like the kid got a free college scholarship out of the deal or anything — you know, important stuff to their future.
