Shawn Mendes apologized on Instagram after slipping up during his introduction of Sam Smith at Thursday’s (December 10th) Jingle Ball.
Mendes misgendered Smith, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.
The “Wonder” singer wrote in his Stories Friday (December 11th), “Oh @samsmith I’m so sorry for referring to you as a ‘he’ for your jingle ball introduction. It absolutely slipped my mind. Won't happen again.”
Smith responded in their own Instagram Stories, “We’re all learning together. Happy holidays, all my love xx.”
