When PRINCE and APOLLONIA filmed “Purple Rain” together, they weren’t actually a couple. She was dating DAVID LEE ROTH at the time. And Prince was JEALOUS.
Apollonia says Prince didn’t want her to be seen with anybody else, or to date anyone famous, until the movie was released. Because, quote, “He wanted to be the one to discover me.”
One time they were at Prince’s house, and he jumped off his piano and touched his toes in mid-air . . . which was a classic David Lee Roth stage move. Apparently, he did it to bust on Dave, and maybe show that he could do whatever Dave could.
But then, Prince started doing it at his own shows. Apollonia says, quote, “I don’t really believe Prince did that number, those splits, before that moment.
“Because I’ve looked for him doing those onstage, and I don’t see that. So I know that afterwards he did that.”
