The left lane is meant for passing; survey

If you’re in the left lane on a highway you better be driving faster than those in the right. That’s according to a new YouGov poll that asked: What do you believe is the purpose of the left lane on the highway?

Overall people felt the left lane was meant to pass slower cars:

  • 40% felt it was ‘for passing OR for cars driving faster than the typical traffic.
  • ‘30% it was ‘for passing other cars (meaning people should move back into the right lane once they have passed)’

There was a small group, 13%, that said it wasn’t for passing rather just for those going faster than everyone else.
