Taylor Swift's Eras Tour arrived in Rio de Janeiro last night, and the city marked the occasion with a special projection on the iconic Christ The Redeemer statue. A shirt with the words “Welcome to Brasil” and surrounded by Swift-centric references — inspired by the one she wore in her music video for “You Belong With Me” — was displayed on the landmark. Mayor Eduardo Paes compared the impact of the singer-songwriter's arrival to the likes of singers Michael Jackson and Madonna. His message in Portuguese translates to: “Just to tell you Taylor Swift fans. The Swifties. Tonight, Christ the Redeemer will honor her presence. She is the Michael Jackson of modern times and for me, Madonna. Anyway, the oldest ones here have other records, but we're going to have Taylor Swift duly honored for her arrival in Rio de Janeiro. Welcome, Taylor Swift. And stay happy, Swifties. Thanks!”
