USA Network has greenlit a new series based on John Grisham’s novel The Rainmaker, with the author onboard as executive producer. The show follows Rudy Baylor, a recent law school graduate who gets wrapped up in a conspiracy surrounding a client’s son’s death. Michael Seitzman, known for Code Black and Intelligence, is writing the screenplay. The original 1997 film adaptation was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Matt Damon and Claire Danes. It remains uncertain which platform will secure the streaming rights for The Rainmaker. Peacock (USA’s sibling streamer) may claim the episodes, or the Lionsgate production studio could negotiate with a larger subscriber base such as Netflix, which could elevate the series and provide a boost similar to the one Suits enjoyed.
