Is there a specific phone alarm you HATE? Maybe you even forced your spouse to change it, because it makes you wake up hating the world?
CNN did a big write-up on the alarm sound Americans seem like they’re most divided on . . . a popular one on iPhones called “By the Seaside”.
Apple’s been using it for over a decade, so you definitely know it. It’s the one that sounds like it’s played on a Casio keyboard. (Here’s eight hours of it.)
Some people love it and think it’s the most relaxing alarm to wake up to. One lady they talked to said she always lets the full thing play in the morning and does “a little dance in bed.” (God, I hate morning people.)
But for others, it’s like nails on a chalkboard. Especially because they’ve heard it SO many times. It’s also a common ringtone people use.
One hater said it feels like the song itself is almost “mocking you in a way.” Like a, quote, “horror movie, where they do the nursery rhyme before doom.”
So is there really something about that specific ringtone that sucks? Or does ANY alarm just get old eventually, and you learn to hate what wakes you up?
The same guy said he once tried using “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers, but stopped when he realized it was ruining the song for him.
