With Illinois State Fair 100 days out, Springfield enjoys first taste of fair food

Today, members of the Springfield community came out to the Illinois State Fairgrounds to fix a craving for fair food.

Five State Fair food vendors set up shop under the Reisch Pavilion to offer their products as part of the State Fair’s 100 Days out Celebration. The event coincided with a 24-hour flash sale of admissions books, with the Emmerson Building open for sales.

For each purchase people made at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, they were given a ticket to enter a raffle — the grand prize: passes to all concerts at the Grandstand at this year’s fair, including the Black Crowes, Megan Mooney, Snoop Dogg, and Def Leppard.

As fairgoers enjoyed staple fair foods, crews labored to prepare the fairgrounds for this year’s festivities; maintaining the property’s extensive lawns, replacing aged roofing, and the stonework of the Grandstand.

With only a few months until celebrations begin, the State Fair once again is preparing to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors from across Illinois, across the country, and beyond.
