The federal funding for the final segment of the Springfield Rail Improvement Project has been fully obligated, according to the local congressional delegation.
Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth and Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Transportation committed the 157 million dollars to allow construction of a new Amtrak station and track realignment and improvements.
The decade-long project consolidates rail traffic from Third Street to Tenth Street and includes the construction of a new downtown transportation center.
