A bill requiring stricter law enforcement hiring practices is on its way to Governor JB Pritzker.
Senator Doris Turner proposed the legislation after last summer’s death of Sonya Massey, with murder charges filed against then-sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson.
The legislation would require agencies to review all background information, including on-the-job records, fitness evaluations, and allegations of misconduct, before offering employment.
The House passed the bill 101-12 after unanimous approval in the Senate.
