study last year found America SWEARS more than any other country.  And now an even bigger study found it really is true, at least online.

Researchers in Australia analyzed almost two million web pages from 340,000 sites . . . over 1.7 BILLION total words.  And they found the U.S. leads all other English-speaking nations in online cussin’.

Around 1 in every 3,000 words we write is a curse word.  The U.K. is next at 1 in every 4,200 words.  Then Australia at 1 in every 4,500.

1 in 3,000 might not sound like a lot until you think about all the news sites and other websites that NEVER use swear words.

The stat for blogs is even higher.  Around 1 in every 2,300 words on American blogs is a curse word.

They went pretty broad with what counts as “swearing.”  The 597 words they scanned for included everything from the F-word to more benign things like “jerk” and “crap.”  (They even included misspellings, like the F-word with 20 U’s.)

The Aussie researchers behind the study almost seemed ANGRY Australia didn’t rank first.  They suggested the results might be different with SPOKEN language.

Quote, “One possible explanation is that Australians are more conservative when they write online, but not so much when they are face-to-face.

Either way, congrats America!  When it comes to cussin’, you’re pretty dang good at it.
